Shazam! Fury of the Gods first look showcases a new pair of villains

Shazam (the superhero, that is) returned to DC FanDome this weekend to show off a behind-the-scenes look at the next installment of the family-friendly, family superhero franchise: Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

Actors Zachary Levi and Asher Angel — who together play Billy Batson in his superhero and kid identities — introduced the footage, taken on set during the production’s 2021 shoot. Joining the cast are a set of new villains, the daughters of Atlas, played by Rachel Zegler (West Side Story), Helen Mirren (Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw), and Lucy Liu (Kill Bill).

The footage featured lots of shots of the Shazam family in their brand new costumes, as well as the movie’s new villains, ancient goddesses played by Liu and Mirren. Cast and crew promised minotaurs, harpies, and dragons, visits to locations from Athens and to the realm of the gods, and plenty of car crashes, explosions, and even a little teen romance.

Much of the core cast of Shazam! is back for Shazam! Fury of the Gods, including Jack Dylan Grazer and Adam Brody as Freddy Freeman — as well as the rest of the child actor/adult pairs who played Billy’s foster siblings and their super-powered incarnations (except for Grace Fulton, Billy’s oldest sister, who is playing her own superhero self this time around).

Director David F. Sandberg already revealed a set of new costumes for the whole Shazam-ily on Twitter in June.
